Career Development in 2040: Navigating the Future World of Work (E/SI)
This interactive session draws from CERIC’s recent “Career Development in 2040” project, a groundbreaking strategic foresight initiative exploring the transformative dynamics of the evolving landscape of work in Canada. This session will help college and institute leaders to grow employment-ready talent through programs and initiatives that build resilient futures. As educators you’ll learn insights and tools to help your graduates thrive in a labour market facing massive disruption. This session will delve into the 10 megatrends shaping the future of work, as outlined in the new CERIC-funded report by Creative Futures Studio. These trends encompass the “green skills revolution,” the greater recognition of neurodivergence, the rise of the “learn and earn” model in higher education, and Gen Z’s values-driven approach to work, in addition to mental health, economic precarity and artificial intelligence. Participants will explore the implications of these trends on careers and engage in discussions, fostering a collaborative dialogue. You’ll explore: How will these complex changes influence career development? Will “careers” as they are currently conceptualized exist in the future? In what ways will the career services and supports you provide need to shift to cultivate a workforce that is better able to thrive in a rapidly changing world? Join this panel of post-secondary career experts to anticipate changes and prepare to navigate them.
