Research at the Pace of a First Nation (E/SI)

May 1, 2024 14:00 - 15:00 Glen Rm 206View map

Four Student Research Assistants from a three-year SSHRC funded research project called Together on the land: Land-Based Learning in Yorkton Tribal Council Schools, will discuss the process of working with four First Nations on a single research grant. They will discuss how their involvement in the project has influenced their approach to their program (Bachelor of Indigenous Education) and what they have learned about Two-Eyed Seeing Research in the context of four Saulteaux First Nations adjacent to a college in eastern Saskatchewan. They will reflect on the need for relationship building and working at the pace of the First Nation in a grant program that operates at a different pace.

Stream: Innovating through Applied Research

Colleges and institutes occupy a critical space in Canada’s innovation ecosystem through their diverse and growing applied research capacity. College and institute applied research has been and will continue to be a key driver in strengthening the economic resiliency and competitiveness of Canada’s small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)and fostering innovation in communities through social innovation research. Applied research plays an important role in developing Canada’s talent pipeline as it provides space for learners to collaborate with SMEs to research, analyze and develop solutions to real-world challenges.
