CityLAB Hamilton – Civic Collaborations in Experiential Learning (E/SI)

May 1, 2024 11:30 - 12:30 Macleod Hall DView map

At the heart of CityLAB Hamilton is collaboration. The program creates a platform for Hamilton’s city leaders to work hand-in-hand with students and academics from three local post-secondary institutions to deliver a better Hamilton for all, Through the power of community service-learning, students take on the toughest challenges and experiment with student-led solutions, all while mentoring and engaging the next generation of leaders.Through this partnership, CityLAB not only delivers co-created solutions that support the City’s strategic priorities, it also provides a rich learning environment for students and city staff alike. It is an innovation program between the City of Hamilton, Mohawk College, McMaster University, and Redeemer University. In this presentation, we will share the history of CityLAB, provide examples of select projects with successful academic and civic outcomes, discuss how CityLAB delivers high quality work-integrated learning opportunities for students, and provide space to discuss best practices and ways to incorporate the program into other municipalities.
