Cultivating Talent: Pathways to Social Innovation for International Students (E/SI)
Across Canada, there is rising awareness and funding for community benefit and social innovation organizations, especially those committed to creating and adopting practices and services that put people and the planet first. Despite the increased employment opportunities associated with the sector’s growth, international students face multiple barriers, such as limited eligibility and the need to address fundamental skill gaps. In this campfire session, participants will learn about the program pilot approach and fundamental skills training provided through the Institute for Equity and Advancement at Columbia College. Our approach enables adaptable program design and a community partnership-based approach to connecting international students with the community. Participants will then join an open format discussion where they can share experiences creating equitable pathways to careers in diverse sectors and reducing inequalities in the social purpose, social innovation, and community benefit sector in Canada to better support newcomer youths to take leadership roles advancing social innovation in Canada.
