Ontario Colleges Indigegogy Circle

October 28, 2024 13:45 - 14:45 C3/C4 (SI)

As Indigenous knowledge learning outcomes are being developed and implemented across Colleges in Ontario, Indigenous Curriculum Consultants created a meeting circle to network, learn, connect, and enhance individual college practices. It started with a conference presentation at Curriculum Developers’ Affinity Group in 2023 about the work that Mohawk College was doing in regards to developing and now implementing Indigenous Knowledge Learning Outcomes across all programs. Several participants reached out to the presenter to meet and share practices. Algonquin College, Mohawk College, St.Lawerence College, and Canadore College represented the first members of this group that meets monthly. It has evolved into a much larger group of Colleges that now discussion topics such as Indigenous Knowledge Learning Outcomes, Quality Audit Measures, Curriculum strategies, Professional Development, workshops developed and offered, and Indigenous Peoples Education Circle. Our circle promotes cultural inclusivity, strengthens Indigenous voices and perspectives in academia, and supports the wholistic development of Indigenous learners.

This has been a wonderful opportunity to build community, learn, and share Indigegogy (Invitation to learning in a relational way). Our networking has demonstrated the role Indigenous education plays in resolving challenges faced across Canada.

The group would like to speak to the evolution of this group and the benefits of networking across a province. Ultimately exemplifying a courageous, brave and inclusive opportunity for participants to reflect and share experiences, best practices, and foster potential collaboration amongst their organizations.
