Noojmowin Shkaptigaan

October 28, 2024 11:00 - 12:00 C102

This presentation offers a comprehensive exploration of wellness and health through an Indigenous lens with our newly developed Wellness Toolkit, Noojmowin Shkaptigaan. This toolkit is designed to offer participants a unique opportunity to engage deeply with Indigenous perspectives on well-being, and it is aimed at fostering meaningful connections and understanding among diverse Indigenous organizations.

Envision this toolkit as a Wellness Journey, where each Bundle symbolizes one of the four cardinal directions—East, South, West, and North. This structure mirrors the sun’s journey across the sky, guiding us from the East, where the journey begins, through the South, West, and North, culminating in a holistic exploration of wellness. As we traverse this path, participants will embrace new perspectives and ways of being, enriching their understanding of Indigenous wellness practices.

Our Wellness Toolkit has been thoughtfully crafted to integrate diverse Indigenous models of wellness and practices, promoting a harmonious balance between academic pursuits and daily life. It offers a rich blend of theoretical insights and practical applications designed to support both group and individual exploration.

Facilitated sessions within the toolkit are ideal for group settings, enabling educators, counselors, and community leaders to guide discussions and activities deeply rooted in Indigenous traditions and knowledge. These sessions provide structured opportunities for participants to engage with and reflect on wellness concepts in a collaborative environment.

The toolkit supports self-guided exploration for those who prefer a more individualized approach. Participants can reflect on prompts and engage in activities at their own pace, allowing for personal insight and growth. This flexibility ensures that the toolkit can be effectively utilized in various contexts and tailored to meet the specific needs of different audiences.
