Going greener: Cégep du Vieux Montréal commits to carbon neutrality

In 2019, Cégep du Vieux Montréal (CVM) began drawing up its new strategic plan, focusing on the engagement and mobilization of the entire community, for which the environment ranks highly in CVM’s priorities. CVM decided to rally its stakeholders in the face of the climate emergency by adopting a carbon neutral approach, reinforcing its zero-waste policy and undertaking ongoing environmental training and related activities.

These undertakings were fulfilled via the creation of the Environment and Innovation Bureau (Bureau de l’environnement et de l’innovation/BEI), which is tasked with supporting the implementation of the 2021-2025 environmental plan with all of CVM’s administrative departments. The plan is primarily designed to promote education in the areas of environmental protection, sustainable development and environmental citizenship, in addition to introducing a coherent environmental management system in line with the UN’s sustainable development goals.

Mindful of its carbon neutral commitments, CVM issues an annual greenhouse gas inventory report that presents all emissions-related data and GHG reductions stemming from its activities. This rigorous process has made it possible to precisely trace CVM’s carbon footprint and to carry out an initial residual GHG offset in October 2023.
