Gwen Machnee

Chair of Applied Research

Gwen has a background in virology, which brought her to Canada from the UK. She soon learned that flexibility and adaptability are essential skills needed for living in rural Saskatchewan and also for working in a small rural college too. Gwen has been involved with Suncrest College (formerly Parkland College) for many years. Firstly, and to this day, as an adjunct biology instructor in the university program, as an administrator for university programs, and as the inaugural applied research specialist. Initially, Applied Research was off the side of her desk until it became too large. In 2021 she took on applied research full-time. There are now five full-time researchers , three part-time and many student research assistants in the program and it continues to grow. Gwen has been involved in projects in agriculture, Indigenous education, business, sustainability, and many other areas including the SAGE 01 project in Belize.

Gwen and her husband have four adult children and a small flock of sheep from which she spins, knits, dyes and weaves their fibre.
